I used to work in hotels so I am always hyper aware of where I’m staying and I made the mistake of letting my friend choose the place for this trip. The hotel felt very dirty and not well taken care of at all. Every piece of furniture has a dent or dirt on it. I seriously considered cancelling the second night because of how gross it felt to stay here. If you’re able to stay somewhere else, you should. The people were nice but I will never stay here again.

The short of this review is watch every single charge these innkeepers put on your credit card, and request receipts or documents at every transaction. They initially charged me significantly more than I approved. Here’s my full explanation if you care: The. rooms were fine, maybe slightly below what you’d expect from a usual comfort inn. But the service and communication are severely lacking. At check in they had tried to put a hold on my debit card in case they incurred any damage to the room, typical practice for a place like this. The hold appeared as a $40 charge, which is kind of an abnormal approach to a hold but hotels need to protect their facility, so I paid it and figured I’d be refunded. The card reader had issues with the transaction, and the innkeeper thought it may have been a problem with the card reader and asked if he could try the one behind the desk (out of my immediate view). I said of course and handed him my credit card instead in case it was a problem on my end. Well when I got to my room I had the original $40 charge on my debit and an additional $87 and change charge on my credit card. I was never informed about any charges and was not told about additional fees. I returned to the desk to talk through the misunderstanding and the innkeeper insisted that the charge was “probably a pet fee” which is fine, but he needed to tell me about it not blindside me with at the out of sight reader while he’s holding my card in his hand. I asked him for an itemized receipt and he said he wasn’t able to provide any documentation because of system problems. At this point it was near midnight on Thanksgiving day and I really just wanted to call it a night. I left and called the manager the next day, who stated that the pet fee should only have been $75. But rather than reverse the $87 and change charges they added an additional $13 and change charge, totaling around $101 and change worth of charges I never approved or was told about. The pet fee is understandable, and I appreciate the hotel welcoming my pup into their space. But you have to communicate transactions and not behave in a shady manner. I was charged twice without my approval, and the first charge was already well over the fee they were supposed to charge. After discussing this with the manager and checking out, both charges were completely dropped about a day later, and I never received the proper $75 charge for the pet fee. I assumed maybe the hotel was just accommodating me for the frustration and poor service. I was indifferent on the stay. Poor service and sketchy communication, but they were at least they were trying to make up for it. But now a week later I get that $75 charge back on my card. The hotel behaves in a shady way and then rolls their eyes when you ask questions. Save yourself the trouble and drive a few minutes up the road, plenty of options in Abilene.
